How to Play 1in8b Play

Learn how choices, yearly plans, savings, branches and shared beginnings work.

Begin a life

Draw a birthplace or choose a supported country. Review the birth card, then confirm. Drawing again before confirmation does not overwrite a saved life.

The first release uses a 2026 model birth year. Birthplace and lifespan inputs include inherited estimates. Household tiers and economic rules are fictional game settings.

Make choices and set a yearly plan

The game pauses for an important decision. Some actions spend cash; others create education, work, housing or family commitments. The effects shown come from the actual rules.

Your yearly plan is settled once per year. Clicking it repeatedly gives no extra reward. Pausing, changing language and opening panels do not affect the simulation.

Read the annual statement

Cash, investments, home value and debts are separate. Borrowing is not income, and moving cash into investments is not spending.

Amounts use GU, a fictional game unit. The model does not provide real salaries, investment forecasts or financial advice.

Share a beginning

The challenge link lets another person begin with the same versioned starting conditions. Their choices can lead to different events and endings.

A complete result can be reconstructed from a shared action record. A beginning-only invitation does not include the sender’s ending. Links are readable by anyone who has them.

Try another path

After an eligible turning point has been recorded, create a separate branch before that decision. The original life remains unchanged.

The comparison describes two paths in this game. It does not predict what a different choice would have done in a real person’s life.

Keep a backup

Lives are saved in this browser on this device. They are not automatically copied to another browser or device. Export a JSON backup for manual transfer.

Clearing site data may remove local lives. A persistence request is not a guarantee against user deletion. Importing an invalid file must leave existing saves unchanged.
